North Gaza building hit: Dozens trapped as medical help stays out of reach
Israeli air-strike hits residential building in north Gaza leaving many trapped under ruins. Local medical services cant reach victims due to restricted access while nearby hospital stops working
In a devastating turn of events this tuesday‚ a multi-story building in north Gazaʼs Beit Lahiya got hit by an air-strike leaving at-least 93 people dead or missing (including about 20 kids)
The four-story building which housed many displaced families became a target without any warning — rescue teams struggle to reach victims because of restricted movement in the area. “There are tens of martyrs‚ body parts are everywhere and many displaced people lived here“ said Ismail Ouaida who helps with rescue work
The situation gets worse as nearby Kamal Adwan Hospital had to stop working; leaving injured people with no medical help. Emergency services in north Gaza dont work anymore due to the three-week-long military push: about 100‚000 people stay cut-off from basic help in Jabalia Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun
The strike happens about a year after the oct-7 attack when Hamas fighters killed 1‚200 people in Israel and took 250 hostages. Since then over 43‚000 Gaza people died in counter-attacks; while Israel says its fighting Hamas in the area
In a related move Israelʼs parliament just passed a law to stop UNRWA from working in-country which makes aid groups worried about Gazaʼs 2.3 million people who need help. Philippe Lazzarini who leads UNRWA calls this choice “collective punishment“
