Marius Borg Hoiby‚ the 27-year old step-son of Norways Crown Prince got detained this week: a court decided to keep him in jail for up to seven days
The police investigation focuses on two separate cases — non-intercourse sexual encounters with women who couldnt give consent (due to their state). His lawyer Oeyvind Bratlien states that Hoiby doesnt agree with detention and claims innocence
Last summer Hoiby had another run-in with law enforcement; he admitted to:
- cocaine and alcohol use
- physical assault against his ex-girlfriend
- damaging her apartment
These are serious allegations Marius now faces and we are of course thinking of all those affected
A recent study shows that domestic violence remains an issue in Norway — about 10% of women dealt with severe partner abuse. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere points out that such problems affect many families; not just royal ones
The non-royal Hoiby (who has no succession rights) might stay in preventive custody while police continues their work — they initially wanted two weeks but got less time approved by judge
