Mike Johnson made a statement about Capitol buildings bathroom-use policy this wednesday. The Louisiana-based House Speaker announced that all single-sex spaces must match peoples biological sex: including restrooms locker rooms and changing areas
In a direct-response statement Johnson said: “Women deserve womens only spaces.“ The rule affects both lawmakers and staff members working in House facilities (which includes multiple government buildings and office spaces)
The timing of this policy announcement comes as Sarah McBride prepares to join Congress. McBride who won her election and will take office in early-2025 is set to become the first-ever transgender person in Congress — making her arrival a ground-breaking moment for U.S political history
