After five years of intense work Notre-Dame Cathedral is ready to welcome visitors again. More than 1000 craftspeople restored the medieval landmark using traditional French building techniques

President Emmanuel Macron visited Notre-Dame to praise the work of over 1000 skilled workers who fixed the fire-damaged cathedral (a project that took about five years to complete)

The historic building which dates back to mid-12th century will open its doors next week: the restoration brought back its famous spire flying buttresses and stone-carved gargoyles. Members of Frances elite Compagnons du Devoir – a group of master-craftspeople worked hard to make everything look better than before

This is overwhelming

Macron stated while touring the renewed cathedral with his wife

The fire that damaged Notre-Dame happened in spring 2019 when millions watched the roof and spire fall down. The rebuilding work got huge support from people worldwide; they gave more than 840-million euros to fix this well-known Paris symbol

The re-opening event is set for dec-7th with many world-leaders expected to come. Archbishop Laurent Ulrich says they hope to see around 15-million visitors each year at the renewed site

Local people feel happy about getting their cathedral back. The building looks fresh with its bright-white stones and gold details – making this medieval church a must-see spot again

  • New stained-glass windows let light flow through
  • Updated fire-safety systems protect the building
  • Restored medieval artwork shines inside
