Two rockets hit a UN-peacekeeping facility in south Lebanon injuring four Italian soldiers who were part of the UNIFIL mission. The 122mm projectiles struck near Chama village damaging a bunker and military police area (the blast scattered glass which caused minor wounds to troops)
The incident happened during increased border activity between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters — a situation thats been getting worse since late-september. UNIFILʼs 10000-strong force which includes over 1k Italian personnel keeps watch over the israel-lebanon border area; however their safety has become a real problem
Such attacks are unacceptable and I renew my call for the parties on the ground to ensure the safety of UNIFIL soldiers
Antonio Tajani italys foreign minister pointed to Hezbollah as possible attackers while Guido Crosetto defense chief called the situation intolerable. An in-depth look into what happened is now on-going: though Israel has denied any purposeful attacks they asked UNIFIL to leave south Lebanon for safety — something the force wont do
