About a year ago Sergei Lavrov made a big-time announcement: Russia and Iran are working on a super-important treaty thats gonna make them closer partners
The deal (which they call a comprehensive strategic partnership) is gonna be signed real soon; its gonna focus on defense stuff and world-level teamwork. Lavrov told state-tv that this agreement would be a game-changer for both countries — making their friendship way stronger
Russia has been making new friends lately; theyʼve got deals with countries that dont like USA. Last summer they signed a similar agreement with North Korea: some sources say about 10k North Korean soldiers are now in Russia (but nobody knows for sure)
The West isnt happy about all this:
- USA says Iran sent missiles to Russia
- They think Tehran gave thousands of drones too
- Western guys put sanctions on ships moving weapons
- Both Iran and Russia say its not true
The Kremlins being kinda sneaky about it though — they wont say if they got missiles but they did hint that theyre working with Iran on some top-secret stuff. Masoud Pezeshkian (Irans president) is supposed to visit Moscow soon; looks like these two countries are gonna be best-buddies from now on
The treaty will confirm the parties desire for closer cooperation in the field of defence and interaction
