South Koreas ruling party put forward new rules that would give chip-makers extra support and let some workers skip the normal work-time limits. The move comes as the country gets ready for possible trade shake-ups from Donald Trumps future policies
The chip-making business brings in big money for South Korea (about 16% of what the country sells to others) but its facing some hard-times. President Yoon pointed out how Chinese firms might start selling stuff real cheap if Trump puts his big taxes on China‚ which could hurt Korean companies
The stock market didnt like the news: shares of Samsung and SK Hynix went down because people are worried about Trumps ideas and rules about selling AI chips to China. The new bill wants to help Korean companies stay strong - especially since other places like Taiwan Japan and the US are giving money to their own chip-makers
The company was trying to blame the law for its management failure
The bills writer Lee Chul-gyu says its needed to help fight back in the US-China chip war; but getting it approved might be tricky since the other party controls most of parliament. The plan would let some smart-people who make new stuff work more than 52 hours per week (which is now not allowed)
Last year Samsung had to say sorry because it wasnt doing as good as other companies like TSMC and SK Hynix at making those new AI chips everybody wants. The whole thing got more complex when Trump said he might take away money-help from companies like TSMC Samsung and SK Hynix and put extra taxes on stuff instead
