In a shocking turn-of-events earlier this week Colonel Kim Hyun-tae – head of the elite 707th Special Missions Group admitted his units role in the parliament raid (which happened just a few days ago)
During a tear-filled press-meeting Kim pointed fingers at ex-defense chief Kim Yong-hyun saying: “We were simply following orders; my troops dont deserve blame for this.“ The special-forces commander explained how his team was told to stop law-makers from entering the building
The crisis started when President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial-law but had to take it back in just hours when parliament met anyway. The whole thing led to these events:
- A failed try to remove Yoon from office
- The arrest of former defense minister
- Ruling party trying to side-line the president
- New plans from opposition to try impeachment again
The ruling Peoples Power Party made things more complex by saying Yoon would step back from state duties – a move that Assembly speaker Woo Won-shik called against the constitution. The prime-minister would take charge of day-to-day stuff instead
The opposition Democratic Party isnt done yet; theyre getting ready to try another impeachment vote – showing this political mess is far from over
