Syrian authorities shut-down Aleppoʼs airport and blocked main roads after opposition fighters made an un-expected comeback to the city (which they left about 8 years ago). The attack started mid-week when Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and their allies pushed through government-controlled areas
The Syrian army got orders for a “safe pull-back“ from city areas where rebels entered — while Moscow promised to send new military gear in the next few days. Mustafa Abdul Jaber from Jaish al-Izza group said their quick advance happened because Iran-backed forces werent present in big numbers in the area; this is connected to recent middle-east events
Weʼre deeply alarmed by the situation unfolding in northwest Syria
The fighting already caused many problems:
- At least 27 people died including kids
- 4 people got killed near university dorms
- Many civilians left their homes
The Kremlinʼs view on this is clear — they see it as a break of Syriaʼs rights; Moscow wants Damascus to “restore order“ in the region. Turkey which supports some opposition groups said it dont want more problems in the area‚ but rebel sources say Ankara gave them a go-ahead signal
