NYFL 2023: Rained-out quarters set for Tue, with Crown Trace, Union Hall and Jaguars trying to advance

The quarterfinal fixtures of the 2023 Republic Cup National Youth Football (NYFL) will resume tomorrow, on Indian Arrival Day, as tournament organisers adjust to yesterday’s rained-out matches.

Only two matches were played in full on Sunday, as Defence Force made light of a 2-2 halftime score to trounce Ste Madeleine Strikers 8-2 in an Under-20 clash while Cox Coaching School cruised to a 4-0 win over Eastern Counties representatives, FC Duranta Youth Academy, in the Under-13 division.

The rains interrupted the following games at halftime, with South Zone Under-15 champs Cox Coaching School leading Central runners-up Evolution Football Academy 4-0, while Crown Trace FC and Malick Blue Lions were goalless in their Under-20 match-up.

The remaining matches never got started at all.

The clash between Cox Coaching School and Evolution FA has not been rescheduled—presumably because the latter team conceded the result, although Wired868 was unable to independently confirm as much.

However, the other rescheduled quarterfinal matches will play tomorrow at the Republic Bank Sports Club in Barataria and the St Augustine Secondary School ground on Warren Street.

Crown Trace, the dominant outfit in Central, have a busy day with three of their teams trying to advance to the semifinals—after their under-13s were eliminated by QPCC on Saturday morning.

South Zone Under-15 runners-up, Union Hall FC, will also try to avoid a double defeat to East Zone champs FC Ginga, after the latter outfit prevailed via kicks from the penalty mark in their Under-13 clash.

From the five East Zone teams that played in the knockout stage so far, only Defence Force (U-20) and Ginga (U-13) prevailed—while Trincity Nationals (U-13) and the Under-17 pair of Tinto’s Sporting Academy and Beatnix Sports Club were eliminated.

Eastern Jaguars, the East Zone Under-20 runners-up, face an uphill challenge to stay alive when they tackle QPCC at the Republic Bank Sports Club in Barataria from 4pm tomorrow.

The lone fixture carded for Wednesday is an Under-15 quarterfinal clash between North Zone champs, Pro Series, and East Zone runners-up, Arima Semi-Pro Blasters Youth Academy.
