Britains media watchdog‚ Ofcom is gearing up to shake things up in the digital world. Come December theyʼll be laying down the law for social media giants‚ telling them exactly what they need to do about illegal stuff on their platforms. These big tech companies wont have much time to dawdle – theyll get just three months to figure out whats risky on their own turf.
Melanie Dawes‚ the big boss at Ofcom‚ isnt mincing words. She says its time to stop yapping and start doing. From December‚ these tech firms will have to get their act together legally and 2025 is gonna be a game-changer for making the internet a safer place to hang out.
Dawes is giving credit where its due‚ saying shes seen some good changes already. But dont think that means theyre gonna go easy on anyone. She warned “Well be coming down hard on those who fall short“
Looks like some of the big players are already stepping up their game. Meta (you know‚ the folks behind Instagram and Facebook) and Snapchat have been tweaking things to keep kids from chatting with strangers – which is pretty neat.
