In a high-stakes case‚ US prosecutors charged Farhad Shakeri - a Tehran-based IRGC asset with planning assassination of president-elect Donald Trump (the task he got just last month but didnt follow through)
Iranian officials quickly denied these claims: their response came thru spokesperson Esmail Baghaei who blamed outside forces for trying to damage US-Iran relations
The 51-year old Shakeri has quite a background - he moved to America as kid but got kicked out about 15 years ago after doing some robbery; now hes somewhere in Iran avoiding US law-enforcement
Two more people got mixed up in this mess: Carlisle Rivera and Jonathan Loadholt from NY (who met Shakeri while doing time) are now in custody for helping plan attack on Iranian-American activist. This same person was already targeted before - first about 3 years ago when 4 Iranians tried kidnapping them and then last year when cops caught someone with gun near their house
This is a repulsive plot by Israel and Iranian opposition outside the country to complicate matters between America and Iran
The case shows how IRGC keeps trying to hit targets on US soil; even tho they dont always succeed their attempts are getting more bold - from kidnapping plans to straight-up assassination plots
