1,200 lightning strikes expected at Kamloops Fire Center, according to BC Wildfire Service

An overnight storm overSouthern Interiorin British Columbia triggered more than 1,000 lightning strikes.

More lightning is expected today, according to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

In an interview with Global News, Fire Information Officer Taylor Colman said there were 1,213lightning strikesat theKamloops Fire Centerand that information was still being I said I'm checking the number if it happens.

Early Thursday, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for much of inland British Columbia. The warning extends from Prince George in the north to the Okanagan in the south to Kootenays in the east.

"Widespread lightning is expected in most of Kamloops Fire Center today. Night. Even over the years,” says Taylor. Fire Intelligence Officer Coleman told Global News:

Coleman said he has a greater than 60% chance of widespread lightning across the region.

"Except for the eastern and northern Kamloops Fire Center, he has a 60% chance of thunderstorms and storms," ​​Colman said.
