Unless, that is, they’re prepared to pay a “bad parenting” fee, reported the New York Post.

The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in the Blue Ridge Mountains in rural Georgia has apparently implemented the fee as a response to misbehaved young diners and their unconcerned parents.

The fee, which is charged at the restaurant’s discretion, is right on the restaurant’s bill: “Adult surcharge: For adults unable to parent $$$.”

When a photo of it appeared on Reddit, its existence lead to a debate despite the fact that the restaurant has apparently been charging the fee for some time.

“What is deemed as an ‘adult who can’t parent?’ No grounds to charge extra if that were to happen,” one redditor wrote

Another said: “Just say no kids…? Kids can be annoying, but they’re unpredictable because they’re KIDS.”

Others have left poor Google restaurant reviews claiming to have been dinged by the “bad parenting” fee.

“The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behaviour,” Kyle Landmann claimed a week ago.

“My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill … Disappointed by the experience.”

“Don’t go if you have children,” wrote Rodrigo Rivera. “We were 3 adults, 2 children and our 4mo baby and since we entered to the place they gave us a bad look. Later my wife was rocking the baby (not crying, just to make him sleep) and this ‘manager’ told her that you don’t do that in a fancy restaurant (of course, this is not a fancy restaurant) and later moved our stroller in a bad way. Food is not good either. Do yourself a favor … go somewhere else.”

However, Toccoa Riverside Restaurant has earned 4.1 stars overall from 2,062 Google reviews.
