The scale of the seizure was such that officers from other squads had to be called in to assist with the tally, a job that lasted two days.
Laval police on Friday said a one-week investigation triggered by a tip from the public resulted in the “historic” seizure on Wednesday of $8 million worth of contraband cannabis.
In a statement, the police force said that warrants executed at two commercial addresses on Lemans Blvd. in the city’s Duvernay district resulted in the seizure 1,314 kilograms of dried cannabis, 2,271 cannabis plants, 69.8 kilograms of cannabis resin as well as $500,000 worth of grow-op equipment.

“While one of the two addresses addresses possessed a permit from Health Canada to cultivate cannabis, the investigation established that the parameters of that permit were not being respected and the production largely exceeded the number of plants allowed by authorities,” the force said.
The scale of the seizure was such that officers from other squads had to be called in to assist with the tally, a job that lasted two days.
Three men, ages 38 to 53, were arrested, then freed on a promise to appear in court.
