Galveston, TX (AP) — In a golf cart 4 People died — including two boys — when a man who was allegedly intoxicated and driving an SUV ran a stop sign at an intersection in southeastern Texas, police said.
Miguel Espinoza, 45, has been charged with manslaughter through his four counts of DUI in a crash around 11:30 p.m. On Saturday in Galveston, about 50 miles southeast of Houston, police said.
Espinoza was being held at the Galveston County Jail on Sunday on $400,000 bail, police said. Prison records did not list his attorney.
Investigators believe the SUV crashed into a golf cart and pickup truck carrying six people after it failed to stop, police said. Police Sergeant Derek Gaspard said the golf cart and pickup were moving in opposite directions at an intersection in a street without a stop sign.
The adult driver of the golf cart was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman and his two boys were taken to hospital, where they died, according to police. Two other passengers - an adult and a boy - were hospitalized in critical condition on Sunday, police said.
Espinoza, a Galveston resident, and his passenger suffered minor injuries, police said. They were taken to hospital and later released.
Gaspard said the pickup crew were not injured. The name and age of the deceased were not immediately released.
