The Sûreté du Québec said the woman was alone and crossing the road to get to a store when she was hit.
A 92-year-old woman died Sunday evening after she was struck by an SUV as she crossed a section of highway in St-Jean-de-Matha, in the Lanaudière region.
Emergency services were called to the stretch of Highway 131 around 5 p.m. They found the victim in critical condition after she had been hit by the SUV, which was travelling along a section of road where the speed limit is 80 km/h. There are no traffic lights or traffic signs at the scene of the incident.

Part of Highway 131 was temporarily closed as accident reconstruction technicians examined the site.
