Horse Tail Rescue raises money to feed herds as hay prices skyrocket

Some families experienced country life at the A Horse Tale Rescue summer fundraiser in Vaudreuil Dorion on Saturday.

A Day in the Country event wouldn't be complete without one of his most popular activities: the hayride to see the cows. But if you ask kids about their favorite attraction, they'll probably answer horses.

"I love horses," she said Ines Garrote-Fernandez. Her sister Laura Garrote Fernandez agreed, "Me too."

Horse Tale Rescue opened its facility to the public for the first time in three years on Saturday. This organization rehabilitates and rehomes horses in need of a second chance.

Hudson resident Donna Munro has lived near a rescue facility for more than a decade, but was I only discovered it through a friend.

"Wow, I'm so excited to be here and just hanging out," Munro said.

She said, I was one of dozens of visitors to see and care for 13 beautiful horses up close.

"I'm amazed at how well the volunteers have taken care of the horses. They showed us pictures of the horses before they came and how they were cared for," he said. John Martin, who traveled from Montreal for the event, said

Horse Routines eating a total of 350 pounds of hay. With hay prices doubling in the past year he's a staple that's proving to be costly.

"Hay alone costs him $30,000 to $40,000 a year," Grenier says.

The fundraiser not only sells hay, but also corn cobs, pictures with horses, dunk his tanks, and baked goods. All collected earnings help feed the flock.

"Like all charities, we still need help. Please help us out if you can and when you can, it will be for good reason," Grenier said.

This organization gives others the opportunity to connect directly with horses. I hope that by doing so, they will return the favor. Volunteers can then continue to care for horses in need.
