Aaron Judge’s mom didn’t like Blue Jays intentionally walking son

But it was the right call and worked out for Toronto

Aaron Judge’s mother didn’t like the Blue Jays intentionally walking her slugger son during Monday’s game, but she should have been more upset with somebody else.

That would be home plate umpire Laz Diaz, who gave the Jays some generous calls leading to a couple of strikeouts against the New York Yankees star earlier in the game.

In any event, Patty Judge, who was in attendance at Rogers Centre as her son tries to catch Roger Maris for the American League (and Yankees) home run record of 61 in a season, shook her head when Judge was given the free pass in a 2-2 game in the 10th inning.

That loaded up the bases with two outs, but ended up working out for the Jays, with Anthony Rizzo grounding out. The Jays won the game in the bottom of the inning when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (who tied for the AL lead in home runs a year ago with 48) walked it off with a single.

Patty Judge was sitting next to Roger Maris Jr. and was with her husband, Wayne, and son Aaron’s wife, Samantha.

“Just to see his mom shake her head, kind of bemused and frustrated, just think what you back at home, how frustrated you’re feeling that you don’t get a chance to see Judge, and then think that’s her son, and she’s watching every single at-bat waiting for him to do something so special,” Yankees play-by-play voice Michael Kay said on the YES Network broadcast, according to the New York Post.

“So probably times it by a million by what you’re feeling at home.”

Judge has been stuck on 60 home runs (tied with Babe Ruth for second all-time by an American Leaguer) for six games heading into Tuesday’s matchup against the Jays.
