Albert Pujols grand slam spurs Cardinals exit to Rockies

Albert Pujols hit a grand slam with his 690th career home run, scoring five runs as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the visiting Colorado Rockies 13-0 Thursday afternoon.

His career 16 grand slams in Pujols' career ranks 10th all-time with Hank his Aaron, Babe his Ruth and Dave Kingman.

Lars Nootvaal hit his 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, and the Cardinals swept the Rockies in three games with his three-run run. 13 wins in the last 14 games, 15 wins in the last 19 games.

The Rockies, on a five-game losing streak, left starting pitcher Antonio Senzaterra and outfielder Charlie Blackmon with apparent foot injuries in his second inning of the first.

Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright (9-8) allowed only his three hits in his seven scoreless innings. He struck out his seven batters, none of whom walked.

Senzaterra (3-7) defensively tried to avoid a collision with first baseman Elefris Montero before being helped off the field in the second inning. He allowed his five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings before making way for reliever Austin Gomber.

Blackmon was injured running first on an infield hit in his first inning. He stayed in the game at first, but he was replaced in right field by Winton Barnard.

The Cardinals immediately launched an onslaught. In the first inning, singles by Nootbaar, Brendan Donovan and Paul Goldschmidt produced one run. Nolan Arenado's groundout drove in another run, and Tyler O'Neal's RBI his single made him 3–0.

Tommy Edman hit a double in the second inning, and Donovan's RBI infield hit injured Senzaterra. Goldschmidt's run-scoring double made it 5-0.

The Cardinals doubled his lead in the third inning and he made it 10-0. Nolan Gorman and O'Neal walked, Dylan Carlson RBI, Nutvar walked, and Pujols hit a grand slam.

Nutevar hit his two-run homer in the fifth to make it 12–0. In the 7th inning, Pujols hit with an RBI to make it 13-0.
