Alleged Machete Attack Victim Speaks of Downtown Vancouver Incident

Four victims were taken to hospital on Saturday night after a machete attack in downtown Vancouver's Granville Street district.

One of his alleged victims spoke about the incident on Sunday. He said the suspect lives across the street from his apartment.

VPD confirmed that a man set fire to his suite inside a boarding house near Granville and Smith streets.

"I was locking the door and he hit me in the head from behind and I fell to one knee. He hit me again with his machete and I grabbed it," Cochrane said. said. "We rolled on the ground and started fighting."

Cochran said the man was trying to kill him. I said it seems like there is.

"He was trying to stab me in the throat, so I tried to keep the knife away."

Cochrane said police had arrived during the fighting.

I told him to let go of the knife and he got up and went to the police. I ran into the office when the shots were fired.

Police confirmed that officers confronted a man with a machete in the Granville Street area. This caused the VPD officers to open fire. Cochrane described the suspect as being about 50 years old and a heavy setman.

"I'm just grateful to be alive," Cochrane said. "He cut my head three times his, and also cut his back and neck."

Cochrane's injuries were evident. He wore a neck brace with at least his 20 staples on the back of his head.

Police said he had four victims in the alleged machete attack. Some have been hospitalized with "life-altering injuries."
