BC Wine of the Week

Hillside Heritage Series Syrah 2019, Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada

$32 I 90/100

UPC: 626990053538

This 20-year-old Syrah comes from Hidden Valley Vineyards just south of the winery above Naramata Highway. Her style is distinctly relaxed and dry, with firm acidity and a bony Rhône twist. It opens with a black raspberry and spicy clove raft, followed by more flavorful hits along the way. An elegant and sophisticated Syrah for contemplation and gastronomy, best of all she is 11.8% alcohol. I love this juicy and fresh style. Good value too.

Cellar Wine

CrossBarn by Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir 2018, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County, CA, USA

$37.24 I 90/100

UPC: 897941000271

Paul Hobbs' 2018 is a blend of 70% estate fruit and area vineyards with what appears to be a piece of new oak. is what Hobbes has done so far. I will chase you for a while. Vibrant and juicy strawberry, rhubarb and bramble His fruity freshness is palpable and reflects the true Sonoma his coast. A small amount of stalk is added to the fermentation, then aged all from multiple locations on the Sonoma Coast, showing a bit of stalk and 9 months of sediment in French oak. Subtle citrus acidity and a hint of minerality complete this delightful Pinot Noir. Salmon, anyone?
