The outbreak of COVID-19 temporarily closed at least three Quebec sleeping camps.

The outbreak of

COVID-19 has decided to temporarily close at least three sleeping camps in Quebec. Radio-Canada sent hundreds of campers home in just one week of the season .

Last night's count was 2, but this morning the third camp closure was confirmed.

In a letter to parents on Monday, the director of Camp O'Arrow in the Lanaudière area said that all 150 campers were 7 on Tuesday. The virus , which stated that it had to return home after the incident, was recorded at the camp.

"It's very sad that this has happened," writes Jacqui Raill. "This decision was not neglected."

Raill said he expects additional cases to be detected in the coming days. Camping will resume on July 13th.

This year's summer camp should have returned to normal, as everything was closed in the summer of 2020 and some did not open in 2021.

Camping Association seeks clarity

In a letter to his parents, Raill decided to close the camp by the local health committee in the area. He said it was done according to the advice from. However, public health officials say did not make this recommendation.

"I was informed about the closure of the camp," said Pascale Lamy, spokesman for CISS Lanaudière. "The complete closure of Camp Ouareau remains a camp management decision."

According to the Quebec Camping Association (ACQ), it decides to close the camp due to an outbreak. There are no clear guidelines for.

On Monday, ACQ Managing Director Eric Beauchemin requested a meeting with the Quebec Department of Health to clarify the rules.

"I have already experienced an outbreak of gastroenteritis before the existence of COVID. It is possible to maintain surgery in this situation. How far can we go in public health? You just have to make sure you can afford it. "He said.

According to Mr. Beaukemin, the camp complies with the COVID-19 guidelines. For example, keep a distance, limit the number of people per accommodation to 10, and prefer outdoor activities.

ACQ has identified the closure of at least two camps in the state and states that there may be others. The association does not name the camp.

Cases between counselors

According to ACQ, cases of COVID-19 were found among counselors. However, absent counselors can take over the supervision of a dozen young people, says Beauchemin.

"This is a headache for the organization. If the prescribed [counselor to child] ratio cannot be maintained, the camp must be shut down."

The camp-affectinglabor shortagefurther complicates the situation due to the lack of alternatives.

As far as the Quebec day camp is concerned, there are no closures at this time.
