Wildfire Glossary
Some terms and definitions used in B.C. Is shown below. Wildfire service to explain wildfires.
•Included:A control line is completed around the fire and related spot fires, and it is expected that the spread of the fire will stop.
•Control Lines:Flame retardants or water treated with water used to control or contain the fire, built around the fire, or a natural barrier.
•Holdover fire:A fire that has not been detected or has been dormant for some time after the first fire, such as a lightning fire.
•First attack:The first action taken by the first firefighters to arrive at the scene in hopes of stopping the spread of the fire.
•Interface Fire:A fire that can burn fuel or vegetation in buildings and forests at the same time.
•Mop-up:Extinguish the fire after being placed under control.
•Spot fire:A fire with an area of less than 10 meters by 10 meters.
