BEI investigating after a man injured in a quarrel with a Longueuil police officer

The 41-year-old woman lost consciousness, the police watchdog said. He has been taken to the hospital and is in serious condition.

LONGUEUIL — An independent police guard in Quebec is investigating the situation in a case related to the Longueuil police service that seriously injured a man late Sunday night.

According topreliminary informationprovided to the Bureau de senquêtes indépendantes, two men armed with sticks faced each other in the parking lot of a commercial facility in Cousineau Blvd. Around 11:35 pm

The first police officer to arrive at the scene found a man in possession of a baton. The man then tried to attack the officer, followed by physical quarrels.

During the quarrel, a 41-year-old man lost consciousness. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, BEI said on Monday.

Five BEI investigators have been assigned to investigate the status of the event. Parallel investigations are conducted by Sûreté du Québec, which also acts as a support police service.
