Toronto Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman left after finishing two innings on Saturday and removing the line drive from his right ankle in a doubleheader opening game with the Tampa Bay Rays.
When catcher Gabriel Morena regained the ball and threw it to first base, play was out, but Gausman fell to the ground and continued to fall for a few minutes. He was able to walk outdoors.
Gausman, 31, did not allow a run on four hits. He hit 3, walked 1 and threw 42 pitches, lowering the season ERA to 2.86.
Right-handed Casey Lawrence took over and started three times.
