Blue Jays use 21-hit attack to crush Red Sox

Right-hander Ross Stripling pitched six shutout innings, Danny Jansen had five RBIs and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting Boston Red Sox 10-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Jansen had a single, a double, a solo home run and a sacrifice fly for the Blue Jays (89-69), who have won the first two games of a three-game series, outscoring Boston 19-0.

Teoscar Hernandez added four hits, including a homer and two doubles and two RBIs, to lead a 21-hit barrage.

Stripling (10-4) allowed no runs and four hits while striking out three in six innings,

Right-hander Brayan Bello (2-8) allowed four runs, 10 hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings for Boston (75-83).

Hernandez and Raimel Tapia led off the home second with singles. A wild pitch advanced both runners one base and Jansen hit an RBI single. Tapia scored on a wild pitch.

Hernandez doubled with two out in the third, Tapia walked and Jansen hit a two-run double.

George Springer led off the home fourth with a single and took third on Bo Bichette’s single. Bichette took second on Vladimir Guerrero’s groundout to third. Alejandro Kirk walked to load the bases. Matt Chapman grounded into a double play to end the threat.

Zack Kelly replaced Bello in the fifth and allowed Hernandez’s 23rd home run of the season to lead off the inning, Jansen hit his 15th homer of the season with one out. Springer and Bichette singled with two out and Guerrero hit an RBI double.

Anthony Bass allowed only a single in the top of the seventh.

Otto Lopez singled against Josh Winckowski.as a pinch hitter for Bichette in the home seventh for his first career major league hit,

David Phelps pitched a perfect top of the eighth.

Hernandez had an RBI double, Tapia an RBI single and Jansen a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Jordan Romano and Adam Cimber pitched the ninth.

Boston reinstated right-hander Kaleb Ort from the restricted list Saturday and recalled right-hander Winckowski. Right-hander Tyler Danish and outfielder Jarren Duran following were optioned to Triple-A Worcester.

Ort is not vaccinated against COVID-19 and could not enter Canada on Friday. The restrictions were lifted on Saturday.
