He said crews will continue to make assessments later in the day to determine when the highway can reopen. The crew also conducted a controlled open burning in the area on Monday - . This helps limit the growth and intensity of wildfires that spread by destroying things like dry leaves and other small fire starters.

"There are a lot of different pieces in this puzzle that work really well, so we made a lot of progress yesterday," he said Motty.

Tuesday's weather forecast will also help contain the spread of fire. Environment Canada forecasts expect 5-10mm of rain at Grand Falls in Windsor on Tuesday, with southeasterly winds of 20km/h and he'll hit 40 degrees, with a high of 15 degrees.

A similar forecast is expected for Bishop's Falls, with up to 10mm of rain possible throughout the day.

Rain is expected over the next few days as temperatures drop.

"I hope this forecast comes true," Motti said.

"Fire and weather go hand in hand, so we really need Mother Nature to be on our side." Please Note: Mayor

This forecast is welcome news for Bishop's Falls Mayor Brian King.

"The fire is still growing and is very active. But the good news... is that the fire is being brought under control throughout the day," King said Monday night. "Airstrikes and seaplanes are still active today. That's good news."
