Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will make a statement related to declaring Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp a terrorist organization at a press conference this afternoon.

Trudeau is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2 p.m. Friday. The Conservatives have been calling for the government to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity, following weeks of protests in that country.

The Liberal government has not provided their reasoning for not doing so, although experts have said there are a number of logistical and practical challenges to enforcing such a declaration.

Asked to explain why the government hasn’t declared the IRGC a terrorist entity in an interview earlier in the day, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said in an interview that Trudeau would have more to say on that topic later in the afternoon.
