London (AP) — British Airways announced on Tuesday that it will cancel hundreds of summer flights. The previously announced reductions in scheduled flights proved to be inadequate to alleviate travel interruptions.

This announcement will affect tens of thousands of travelers planning to fly from London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

In the spring, the airline announced that it would cancel 10% of its flights between April and October so that it would not have to cancel the flight on the day of departure.

With the latest cancellation, this number will be about 11%. British Airways said it offers customers refunds or rebookings for other flights.

British Airways said, "Earlier this year, we took preemptive steps to shorten our summer schedule and provide our customers with as much notification as possible about travel plan changes." I am saying.

"Unfortunately, the entire aviation industry continues to face the most difficult times in history and needs to be further reduced," he added.

Airlines and airports in Europe, the United States and other regions are suffering from staff shortages in jobs ranging from luggage handlers to security guards. The shortage, coupled with the surge in travel demand following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions in many places, has led to delays in airport routes and flights.

British Airways cancellation will strike in a payment dispute, following a vote by workers at Heathrow Airport. Workers, including check-in staff, have scheduled strikes, but they are expected to take place during peak summer vacations.
