He had until June to spark the campaign. Anglade left office Dec. 1, 2022.

The announcement comes on the same day as Quebec’s Liberals are to announce their candidate. The Liberals have called a news conference for 10 a.m. at the Burgundy Lion.

There are reports the candidate will be Christopher Baenninger, who finished second in the general election when he ran against Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Manon Massé in Sainte-Marie—Saint-Jacques.

QS, which placed second in Saint-Henri—Sainte-Anne in the general election, has already announced the name of their candidate, immigration lawyer and consultant Guillaume Cliche-Rivard. He bagged 28 per cent of the vote compared with Anglade’s 36 per cent.

The Coalition Avenir Québec announced Jan. 25 that the leader of the CAQ’s youth wing, Victor Pelletier, will be its candidate.
