First on the menu? Soup, “the universal comfort food.”
“It is our way of being good neighbours, and doing what we can to help — the tradition of the market is to be a place of food and connection,” Ottawa Markets Director Zachary Dayler said in a media release.
Giving Tuesday began a decade ago as a way of inspiring generosity. It is marked in more than 80 countries, including Canada where more than $43 million was raised through online donations on Giving Tuesday 2021.
“Ottawa Markets hopes our initiative will set an example for others looking for ways to support and build back their communities,” the organization said in its release.
Ottawa Markets is the independent non-profit agency that manages Ottawa’s ByWard and Parkdale markets.
