Toronto's Victoria Mboko and London, Ontario's Kayla Cross both lost qualifying tournament matches.
Mboko lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to Clairieu of the United States in the final match of the day, which lasted more than two hours for her in the scorching heat.
Cross played in the grandstand of Sobeiz Stadium, where all three of Canada's matches were played, in Spain's Nuria, where she lost 7-6, 6-0 to Palisas Diaz. .
Her Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic is the top seed in the qualifying tournament. She will play Germany's Tatiana Maria on Sunday.
