According to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants, Canadian car sales in June Was down 11.5% year-on-year. Supply challenges continue.
The consultancy estimates that 143,773 new mini vehicles were sold in the month with the lowest sales in June since the year of the recession in 2009.
Total sales were 162,500 units last year, but in 2018 more than 200,000 units were sold each month.
Andrew King, managing partner of DesRosiers, said in a report that "vehicle shortages are still serious and dominate the market environment."
Supply challenges primarily related to the shortage of semiconductor chips caused by the pandemic continue to limit sales recovery. According to
DesRosiers, seasonally adjusted annual sales in June were 1.45 million units, a slight increase from 1.36 million units in May.
