Canadian TikTok star Megha Thakur, 21, ‘suddenly’ dead

Canadian TikTok star Megha Thakur has passed away. She was 21.

According to an Instagram post made by her “loving parents,” the Brampton native died last week.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on November 24, 2022 in the early morning hours,” they wrote to her more than 101,000 fans.

“Megha was a confident and independent young woman,” the post continued. “She will be dearly missed. She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing.”

They added: “At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey.”

Thakur’s parents did not reveal the cause of their daughter’s death.

Thakur, who studied computer science at Western University in the fall of 2021, posted her first video on TikTok— where she had more than 931,000 followers — in November 2019, the Western Gazette reported.

She was known for spreading messages of self-confidence and body positivity.

Her last post was on Nov. 18, a video in which she walked through the streets of New York.

“You’re in charge of your destiny. Remember that,” she captioned the video with the hashtags “#confidence” and “#selflove.”

Thakur’s followers were shocked and saddened by the news of her passing.

“This is too devastating, I can’t believe this,” one person wrote. “Rest in peace beautiful angel. You brought joy and helped a lot of people loving themselves.”

A second person commented, “I will always be grateful for finding your account. You were the only person that really helped me boost my confidence, you will always be important to me, love you forever, rest in peace my queen.”

Another added: “She really chose to use her platform and influence to make other people feel good about themselves. What a loss for the world.”
