Emergency crews were called around midnight to Bathurst St. and Hillhurst Blvd. after reports of a collision; a passerby took video of the aftermath and posted it to social media.
The video shows a badly damaged bus, with metal and glass parts scattered over a large part of the road and sidewalk.
And the video shows a smashed-up car lying on its side against a tree nearby.
The driver of that vehicle walked away from the accident.
Toronto Police Const. Victor Kwong said Tuesday the case is being treated “as a full-on fail to remain.”
Police have not yet confirmed whether the abandoned vehicle was a rental or stolen, but even under those circumstances, said Kwong, “it just means the investigation takes a little longer.”
The police were called by someone in the neighbourhood who heard a loud bang and went to their window to look out.
They saw the bus and the car flipped over, “and that was the initial 911 call,” said Kwong.
Two people were hurt, he confirmed.
“The operator of the TTC bus and one passenger on the bus were taken to hospital. They have non-life-threatening injuries.”
