CN railroad workers end strike as parties agree to enter arbitration

The Canadian National Railroad and its union representing 750 signal and telecommunications workers have agreed to enter into a binding arbitration, ending the two-week strike. ..

The International Brotherhood of Electric Workers has informed CN of its intention to strike in mid-June after failing to reach a new agreement on raising profits and wages. These issues remain unresolved and will be resolved through arbitration .

According to CN's press statement , the strike will end at midnight on Tuesday.

"CN wants to thank management, employees and contractors for the services they were able to continue without interruption of railroad operations during the strike," the statement said.

IBEW confirmed that the strike ended at , but did not issue a statement at at the time of publication.

CN experienced an eight-day strike in November 2019 by more than 3,000 workers, represented by Teamsters Canada. This strike stopped shipping nationwide and disrupted the industry.

CN carries over 300 million tons of commodities and consumer goods throughout the continent each year.
