Gateway Boulevard may experience delays due to a new road construction project starting Thursday.
Renovation work on Gateway Boulevard between University Avenue and 80 Avenue begins Thursday. This work is part of theGateway Boulevard Restoration and Reconstruction Project.

Existing excavate sidewalks and roads, install new curbs, gutters and sidewalks, rebuild roads, and improve traffic lights and street lighting.
The work done between University Avenue and 80 Avenue is Stage 1 of the project. In Stage 2, work will be done along a busy road between 80th Avenue and White Avenue. Stage 2 is scheduled to start next year.

At each stage of the project, traffic along Gateway Boulevard in affected areas will be reduced to two lanes .

Other routes help alleviate traffic congestion, but the city says local access will always be maintained.
Detour signs will be installed for pedestrians using this area.
The City of Edmonton said cyclists can continue to use the nearby road bike lanes at 106 Street and 76 Avenue.

The city expects both phases of the project to take two construction seasons and be completed by the fall of 2023.
