Duty Insp. Ryan Forde said told reporters that the victim was standing near the sidewalk when they were hit. The driver then fled westbound on Danforth Ave. in what was described as a dark-coloured vehicle. At this point the make and model of the vehicle are unknown.
The severely injured victim was then rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly after.
Toronto Police closed down a portion of the Danforth — from Woodbine Ave. to Patricia Dr. — while they investigate the city’s fourth homicide of 2023. Investigators said they expect transit delays and detours as well.
Toronto police are looking for witnesses and people who may have video of the incident or the crime scene vicinity to come forward.

Meanwhile, Durham Regional Police homicide detectives continue to investigate a double murder at a Bowmanville home.
Officers attended the home on Crombie St. around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday after they had been asked to do a welfare check on the residents of the house.
Once inside, cops discovered the lifeless bodies of two adults. Both showed “obvious signs of trauma”, investigators said. So far, police have not identified the victims nor provided details about a suspect or potential motives.
The DRPS Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is asking anyone with information or video footage, including dashcam and home surveillance, to contact police.
The deaths are the third and fourth homicide victims in Durham Region in 2023.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Dorego of the Major Crimes Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5319.
