COVID-19 update: Quebec reports 14 more deaths as hospitalizations rise again

Quebec reported 1,016 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

Fourteen new deaths were reported, for a total of 16,836 deaths since the pandemic began. Three of the deaths reported Friday occurred in the last 24 hours, four between two and seven days ago, and seven more than seven days ago;

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Quebec was 1,829, an increase of 19 compared with the previous day.

Of the patients currently in hospital, 38 are in intensive care — an increase of three compared with the previous day.

On the vaccine front, 20,964 doses were administered for a cumulative total of 21,391,514 doses received by Quebecers.

The news comes as Health Canada announced Friday that it has authorized Pfizer’s Omicron retooled booster.
