GAZA CITY, GAZA STRICT (AP) — The death toll from fighting between Israeli and Gaza militants over the weekend rose to 47, Gaza's health ministry said on Thursday amid violence. He said the man died from his injuries.

Israeli aircraft hit targets in the Gaza Strip, while Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant groups fired more than 1,000 of his rockets in three days of fighting. This is the worst cross-border violence since his 11-day war with Hamas last year.

According to the Ministry of Health, 16 women and 47 of them died, including her four children. Those killed in recent violence include several militants, including two senior Islamic Jihad commanders, one of whom was targeted by Israel to deter an imminent attack. A failed rocket attack by Palestinian militants may have killed as many as 16 people.

It was not immediately clear how the man who died Thursday was injured.

The fighting disrupted the lives of hundreds of thousands of Israelis. Israel's sophisticated Iron Dome missile defense system shot down many of the rockets aimed at Israel, and no Israelis were killed or seriously injured.

A truce was signed on Sunday night, ending the fighting.
