Vancouver Police say they are investigating a suspected machete attack in the city center that left four people in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police were called to a boarding house in the Granville Entertainment District on Saturday after a man allegedly set fire to a suite and attacked four of his people in the building, they said.
Police say they eventually shot and wounded the man after he confronted officers while still armed.
This sparked an investigation by British Columbia's police surveillance agency. The watchdog is investigating incidents in which people were injured during interactions with police.
