A female is dead and three other people are injured after a car crashed into a minivan on Highway 400 north of Toronto early Friday.

Ontario Provincial Police say a red Volkswagen Jetta that was seen driving “at a high rate of speed” collided with a minivan near Rutherford Road in Vaughan around 3 a.m.

A female in the minivan died at the scene and three other passengers were transported to hospital with injuries.

OPP say the driver of the Volkswagen was last seen walking away from the crash.

All Highway 400 southbound lanes between Rutherford Road and Highway 7 are closed as police investigate.

The highway is expected to reopen around 9 a.m.
