A fire that started with a dryer in the basement damaged a home in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau on Wednesday.

The Gatineau Fire Service said the fire spread through the wall, but its spread was limited to the ground floor of the two-storey residence in the neighbourhood just north of boulevard de Lucerne.

The blaze was reported by one of the occupants of the house just after 7 a.m., and the situation was under control by about 8:30.

Damage was estimated at $27,000.

The fire service said four people had to evacuate from the home because of the flames, but there were no injuries, nor were the residents subsequently displaced.
