Entrepreneur Combines Passion for Social Work and Aesthetics to Indigenous-Based Beauty Academy

Just a 90-minute drive from Saskatoon, you have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to change your life.

"I have always been passionate about social work, fighting for Indigenous rights and also have a love of aesthetics," said Daniel Matt.

Matte is a Mosquito First Nation and he teaches an aesthetic course to 10 students.

She became an esthetician in her teens and turned to social her work. When the pandemic started, she returned to her original passion.

"Originally, we had a request to bring an eyelash course north, and the first place we went was La She Roche," Matt said.

This experience led Matte to tour her six different Indigenous tribes in Saskatchewan and Alberta, where she taught dozens of Indigenous people her six-week aesthetic course. .

Most recently, she brought traditional educational methods to the Mosquito First Nation.

“Opportunities like this don't come along very often, so when I saw this, I shot it,” said a student. said Neanna Pritchard of

Pritchard first learned on social media that a beauty course would be introduced to her First Her Nation. The 23-year-old hadn't decided on a career path, but that's changed now.

"In the first week of training, she offered me a job," Pritchard said. "So when I finish this course, I'm moving to Saskatoon to help out with the academy."

The academy, called Redefined Co., in downtown Saskatoon, is Matt's latest project.

While she brings the school to a permanent location, she also offers salons and spas her services.

"I can create experiences and environments that are safe places for Indigenous people," Matt said.

Matte has always dreamed of uniting her two worlds, her social work and her aesthetic.

Her academy is always staffed by Indigenous counselors, and students learn financial literacy and how to succeed in business.

Redefined Co. will have her first class in September, and Matt hopes this will be her first class.

"Eventually, we want to make education available across Canada," she says Matte.

She is passionate about continuing to educate and inspire as many indigenous communities as possible.
