Brussels — The European Parliament on Wednesday paved the way for the proposal to become law in favor of EU regulations labeling investment in gas and nuclear power plants as climate-friendly.
Of the 639 lawmakers who voted, 278 supported a motion to block EU gas and nuclear rules, 328 opposed the motion, and 33 abstained.
This was less than the majority of 353 of the total 705 members of Parliament that the motion needed to win to thwart the EU's proposal. The rule will be applied from 2023, but the threshold is considered very unlikely unless 20 of the 27 EU member states reject the rule. (Report by Kate Abnett, edited by Marine Strauss)
