Ottawa — The federal government has a backlog in processing applications. continues, we are adding new passport service locations across Canada.

Nearly 1.1 million applications for new and renewed passports have been submitted since April as pandemic restrictions eased and Canadians resumed travel.

In the first week of August, the number of passports issued within 40 working days fell to 72% from the previous week's 81%.
Government statistics show that the system is starting to catch up with demand, but there remains a large backlog, especially for applications submitted by mail.
