BEIJING (AP) — Authorities have closed a fire that engulfed a 900-year-old covered wooden bridge in southeastern China. We are investigating the cause. weekend.
The entire Wan'an Bridge appeared to be engulfed in flames in videos and photos of Saturday night's fire in Fujian's Pingnan county. No injuries have been reported in the fire. At
98 meters (323 feet), it is the longest in China. It has been rebuilt many times over the centuries, most recently in 1932. Standing on five stone pillars, the wooden building crossed a river and had a covered outdoor walkway.
The original bridge was built in the Song Dynasty.
