An Ottawa firefighter sustained a non-life-threatening injury while battling two house fires on Wednesday night.
At 10:16 p.m., a number of people called 911 to report smoke and flames coming from two houses on Bell Street South, just south of Highway 417.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and found flames consuming one of the two-storey homes and the flames spread to the attic of the second structure.
“Firefighters searched both structures through the heavy smoke and flames and confirmed there were no occupants inside,” the fire service said in a release said.
The first home was later declared to be at risk of collapsing and firefighters were advised to stay out of it.
Meanwhile, live hydro wires were arcing in the backyard so hydro workers shut down power to the entire street.
At 11:35 p.m., more than an hour after emergency services first arrived on the scene, the fire was declared under control.
But one firefighter had been injured, OFS said, though the service did not provide details as to that injury. The firefighter was transported to the hospital.
A fire watch was set up to have a crew remain on the scene to check for any hot spots or flare-ups and a fire investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Both homes were scheduled for demolition, so victim services were not required, OFS said.
