Firefighters doused a fire on balconies at an Everest Private condo building early Tuesday before the flames could spread into the units, Ottawa Fire Services said.

Multiple 911 calls came in at 4:48 a.m. reporting flames outside two units at the building between Russell Road and St. Laurent Boulevard and responding firefighters could see a large amount of smoke from a distance.

Crews had water on the fire one minute after arriving and did two full searches of both units to confirm no one was inside. The fire was under control at 5:06 a.m. No injuries were reported and a fire investigator was not required, the fire department said.

Hours later, “a quick response (and) a fast attack” by crews in Kanata prevented flames that engulfed a car in a driveway on Manning Court from spreading to the single family home less than a metre away. The fire was called in at about 8:45 a.m. Again, no injuries were reported.
